LYDIA REID From EDINBURGH | Signed On: Thu 01 Jan 1970 00:00:00 CST Again I find it difficult to say anything different other than my prayers are with you for a happy outcome and a safe return of Maddie. God bless you both and the twins and god give you strength. It seems that at last you will be vindicated it will be made public that you two are not suspects but I wonder if I am the only person with doubts about the original policeman who acted as head of the case. Could it be this man had anything to do with the abduction of Maddie and the other children. Will the portuguese police do any investigations into this man. |

Brian From Essex | Signed On: Thu 01 Jan 1970 00:00:00 CST Dear Kate and Gerry, Were you really negligent when you left your three children alone? The answer to this question is, absolutely not. In the nineteen-sixties some research was carried out into how people make decisions. (I think it was at Kent State University in Ohio). It was found that decisions taken at business meetings were always very much more risky than those taken by individuals. It appears that this is a tendency that human beings apply to all aspects of their lives at a subconscious level. Further, it seems to be an instinct that human beings have had since they evolved millions of years ago. If you think about how people would have behaved a few thousand years BC the reason for the instinct becomes clear. A large group venturing out into the world would probably have enough muscle between them to get out of trouble if necessary. A man alone would have been much more vulnerable. For this reason he would take less risky decisions, perhaps keeping well hidden. A crowd of people, such as you were with in Portugal would naturally cause you to make a more risky decision than you might have if you had been alone. As human beings you have deeply ingrained instincts that made you feel safe in the crowd you were with. Unfortunately, this is one case where the instinct failed to protect your family. It is worth remembering that millions of parents leave their children in similar places to you without anything happening to them. I can remember when my brother had a baby boy who was regularly put to bed while we had a barbecue on a paved area at the bottom of the garden. It would have been possible for someone to break in from the front of the house while we were eating and drinking without our knowledge. It never happened of course because it does not happen to the vast majority of parents. You are the one couple in many millions who were tragically unlucky. The more loving you are, the more deeply you feel guilt. And I am pretty sure you are a very loving couple. No, you do not have any reason to feel guilty.

LYDIA REID From EDINBURGH | Signed On: Thu 01 Jan 1970 00:00:00 CST Dear Jerry and Kate, time goes on as it must for you and still so many people remembering Maddie every day still so many praying for her. I wonder if you have given any thought to the fact that through your daughter so many people pray. Gods blessings on you. During this time of lent I believe even more people will pray for her I will assume you have something soon going into the media which will be a reminder to all to pray for her. I try to imagine how difficult it must be for you to keep that faith going. It is difficult for us to try to say something different just to show our support each time we log on. If it was easy most people would do this each day. Bless and keep you both and your two little ones |
